In my research for this piece, I stumbled across an interview with the playwright herself around the time One Flea Spare was accepted into the French Repertoire.
Her idea of allowing us to reflect on ourselves in the pool of a past time has been a major influence on my direction of this piece so far. I am constantly finding parallels between the period of the play and today.
Another thing she talks of in this interview is the imaginary boundaries we place around ourselves. We tend to falsely believe that we can prevent what happens outside our homes and inner selves from affecting what's inside. This play challenges that idea.
The first few responses are the ones directly relevent to this piece. The others are about her views on theatre in general, but learning more about the playwright is a fantastic part of this process!!!
